The largest ship ever built for the Royal Australian Navy, Landing Helicopter Dock NUSHIP Adelaide, passes through Sydney Heads for the first time. *** Local Caption *** NUSHIP Adelaide is the second of two Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships, the largest ships ever built for the Navy. The LHD will be able to conduct a range of roles including large scale amphibious operations and carry out humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. The ship's company is made up of 400 personnel from Navy, Army and Air Force. NUSHIP Adelaide will commission into the Royal Australian Navy in a ceremony in Sydney in late 2015 when she will become HMAS Adelaide. DCIM100MEDIADJI_0365.JPG
